The ISO 14001 and Environmental Legal Compliance
ISO 14001 is the international standard that specifies what an EMS should be doing to become independently certifiable. It defines the framework of an organization's environmental management, to ensure that management is externally verifiable in terms of its planning, controls, monitoring, review and improvement.
The two pillars of the EMS that are most important to most organisations are ISO 14001 and legal compliance. The standard specifies system requirements. The legal register converts relevant regulations, permissions and consent into concrete obligations on the part of the organisation that the EMS is clearly showing that it fulfils.
